A Demonstration of the Quiz Capsule

By

This is a demonstration of what can be done with the new quiz capsule.

There are three types of quizzes. The first type of quiz is the most straightforward. It is the type of multiple choice quiz that you took when you were in school. In this kind of quiz, there is exactly one right answer. You get one point for selecting the correct answer, and zero points for selecting the wrong answer. Here is an example:

Quiz Type 1: Measurement Trivia

The second kind of quiz doesn't have right answers. You get a different number of points (between -5 and +5) depending on which answer choice you choose. This kind of quiz works best for quizzes that measure something about a person, such as how outgoing they are.

Quiz Type 2: How awesome of a hubber are you?

The last kind of quiz has multiple possible results (two or more). For example, it might tell you whether you are a republican or a democrat based on your answers to the questions. Each answer choice contributes between -5 and +5 points to each result possibility. For instance, if the quiz contains the question "How do you feel about President Obama?" then the answer choice "I like Obama" might contribute +3 points to the democrat result possibility.

Quiz Type 3: Which Sesame Street character are you?

I hope you have fun with the quiz capsule. I'm very interested to see what creative quizzes everyone comes up with! Good luck!

Thank you to everyone who has left a comment. Please let me know if you run into any problems with the quiz capsule, or if you have any suggestions.

Just For Fun 2 years ago

You know what else would be cool, like an interactive quiz, such as do you believe A or B? If you answer A, then you are taken to questions C-E, if you answer B, you are taken to F-H. And have it completely customizable. I'm sure there's a scientific name for it. That would help people learn other people's lines of logic on different topics. Anyway, again, cool idea.

Quiz: Did you like this hub (Yes or No):

Answer: Yes

Fawntia 2 years ago

Just For Fun, I think you are talking about a decision tree. I thought about adding something like that but I was afraid it might be too confusing. The capsule editing area is pretty small, so that makes it even harder. It might be a possibility in the future, though. Thanks for the suggestion!

William F. Torpey: I like your quiz! :)

GmaGoldie 20 months ago

I love this capsule - I just wish it could be halved - am I missing something? I would like for one of my Hub on home improvement to put the two quizes next to each other. Any suggestions?

Fawntia 20 months ago

GmaGoldie, thank you for your comment. Although you can make a half-size quiz, it has to be floated to the right. There is a technical reason why that's the case. So yes, unfortunately, you can't put two half-size quizzes next to each other. Sorry about that!

I've used a few quizzes in my hubs but I haven't seen much feedback or traffic because of them. They are interactive and fun.

Silver Poet 16 months ago

I was interested in the quiz function but hadn't tried it yet. Thanks for explaining how it works.

Truckstop Sally 16 months ago

Great info! Just curious, how many people answered correcyly for how many cups in a gallon?

Fawntia 16 months ago

Truckstop Sally, you can see how people answered the quiz questions by clicking on the link that says "view quiz statics." Out of the 395 people who've taken my first quiz, 56% answered the cups in a gallon question correctly.

Great Hub, but do you know how to completely incorporate pictures in the hubpages quiz capsule? I tried this on one of my hubs [But HP forbids me to tell you which one!!] and it works for that hub, but a BIG disadvantage is that if you then take the widget and post it somewhere else it doesnt copy the pictures! ANYONE HAVE A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM?

Fawntia 14 months ago

Hi cascoly. I'm sorry, but we don't have the ability to incorporate photos into quizzes yet. I see how you have used photos in your scavenger hunt Hub. It's a clever idea, and hopefully some day we will have better photo support in the quiz capsule itself. Thanks for letting me know that you would appreciate such a feature.

cascoly 14 months ago

thanks - i'd be happy to help beta test such a new feature - or work with an app developer to do so.

Derdriu 7 months ago

Thank you for the clear, succinct explanation and effective examples of each quiz type. It also is fun to find out what kind of a Hubber and Sesame Street character I am!

Vinaya Ghimire 3 months ago

I have never used quiz capsules in my hubs. Actually I m more comfortable with text and photo capsules. But in the recent times I'm trying video capsules and poles.

I had noticed nice examples of quiz capsules on hubs but did not know how it is done. I enjoyed reading this comprehensive guide to quiz. I'm going to try this.

Debby Bruck 3 months ago

Hello Fawntia ~ I've been waiting and wanting someone to do a demo of these capsules with explicit instructions, because I've spent hours trying to figure out how to create them. I will bookmark and review again.

These were three types of examples, but I wish to know EXACTLY how to create each of them. Many thanks, Debby

Faceless39 3 months ago

Rated up, awesome, and useful. To be honest, I've been using the quiz capsule for a few months now and didn't realize there were 3 options. I agree with Debby; more information on the "how-to" aspect would be great. Great hub!
